Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in Wisconsin is seeking a Roadway Engineer to join a collaborative team delivering roadway and highway projects for WisDOT and local agencies.

You’ll support planning, design, and delivery across Wisconsin, from concept to final design, applying roadway design principles, preparing plans, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring safe, high-quality transportation solutions for Wisconsin communities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in roadway design/highway design/transportation engineering.
  • Experience with WisDOT projects and Wisconsin design standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; MicroStation a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support design and delivery of roadway and highway improvement projects for WisDOT and local agencies.
  • Prepare PS&E, design calculations, reports, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Develop roadway geometry, alignments, profiles, and construction plans using ORD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders.
  • Perform quality reviews to ensure WisDOT standards compliance.

As a Roadway Engineer, you’ll join a collaborative team delivering impactful roadway and highway projects for WisDOT and local agencies throughout Wisconsin.

In this role, you'll support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects across Wisconsin, contributing to roadway projects from concept development through final design. Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll apply roadway design principles, prepare plans and technical deliverables, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and gain exposure to client interactions while helping deliver safe, innovative, and high-quality transportation solutions for Wisconsin communities.

The final candidate will ideally be located in Madison but other work locations may be acceptable including Milwaukee or Appleton, WI.

What you'll do
  • Support the design and delivery of roadway and highway improvement projects for WisDOT, including urban and rural corridors, freeway and interchange improvements, reconstruction projects, intersection improvements, and multimodal transportation facilities
  • Prepare the development of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E), design calculations, technical reports, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Utilize Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop roadway geometry, corridor models, alignments, profiles, and construction plans
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, drainage, structures, environmental, utilities, and construction professionals
  • Collaborate with WisDOT staff, municipalities, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Perform and oversee quality reviews to ensure compliance with WisDOT standards, the Facilities Development Manual (FDM), and applicable federal guidelines
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including design clarifications, field reviews, and resolution of project challenges

Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in roadway design, highway design, transportation engineering, or civil transportation projects
  • Experience delivering WisDOT transportation projects and working with Wisconsin design standards and specifications
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, experience with MicroStation platforms is a plus
  • Knowledge of roadway geometrics, corridor modeling, intersection design, plan production, quantities, and PS&E development
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

The base salary range for this position is $70,000.00 to $100,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
