Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Roadway Project Engineer / Task Manager to lead planning, design and delivery of transportation projects across Wisconsin, including WisDOT initiatives. You will supervise tasks, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with standards.

You'll apply AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation, manage scope, schedule and budget, and collaborate with clients and stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable roadway improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin or via reciprocity.
  • 5+ years of roadway/highway/transportation design experience.
  • Experience with WisDOT projects and Wisconsin standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; MicroStation is a plus.
  • Strong roadway geometry, design and PS&E knowledge.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and deliverables.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support design and delivery of roadway projects for WisDOT and local agencies.
  • Prepare and oversee PS&E, calculations, TCFs, reports and quantities.
  • Use ORD, MicroStation and AutoCAD Civil 3D for roadway geometry and plans.
  • Serve as a task manager for design projects: scope, schedule, budget, deliverables.
  • Coordinate with traffic, drainage, structures, environmental, utilities and construction teams.
  • Collaborate with WisDOT staff, municipalities, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform quality reviews to meet WisDOT standards and guidelines.
  • Provide mentoring to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support planning, proposals and client relationships.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and field reviews.

As a Roadway Project Engineer / Task Manager, you'll join a collaborative team delivering impactful roadway and highway projects for WisDOT and local agencies throughout Wisconsin.

In this role, you'll lead the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects from concept through final design.

You'll apply your roadway design expertise while taking on project leadership responsibilities, managing project tasks, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, mentoring developing engineers, and helping clients achieve successful project outcomes.

What You'll Do
  • Support the design and delivery of roadway and highway improvement projects for WisDOT, including urban and rural corridors, freeway and interchange improvements, reconstruction projects, intersection improvements, and multimodal transportation facilities
  • Prepare and oversee the development of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E), design calculations, technical reports, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Utilize Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop roadway geometry, corridor models, alignments, profiles, and construction plans
  • Serve as a task manager for transportation design projects, supporting scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and client coordination
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, drainage, structures, environmental, utilities, and construction professionals
  • Collaborate with WisDOT staff, municipalities, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Perform and oversee quality reviews to ensure compliance with WisDOT standards, the Facilities Development Manual (FDM), and applicable federal guidelines
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to early-career engineers and designers
  • Support project planning, proposal development, and client relationship activities
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including design clarifications, field reviews, and resolution of project challenges
Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin, or ability to obtain through reciprocity
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in roadway design, highway design, transportation engineering, or civil transportation projects
  • Experience delivering WisDOT transportation projects and working with Wisconsin design standards and specifications
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, experience with MicroStation platforms is a plus
  • Strong understanding of roadway geometrics, corridor modeling, intersection design, plan production, quantities, and PS&E development
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and managing project tasks and deliverables
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ideally, you'll also have
  • Experience serving as a task manager or taking a lead role on design projects
  • Knowledge of WisDOT project development processes, permitting requirements, and construction administration support
  • Experience mentoring engineers or designers and coordinating with clients and project stakeholders

The base salary range for this position is $10,800.00 to $125,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
