DLZ Corporation in Columbus, OH, is seeking a Design Engineer – Roadway to join our multidisciplinary firm delivering engineering and architectural design across the Midwest. The role focuses on hands-on roadway and transportation design for ODOT and LPA projects, producing construction plan sets with alignments, profiles, drainage, and MOT.

Candidates should have a Civil Engineering degree and 5–12 years of roadway design experience and proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and Civil

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• 5–12 years of roadway or transportation design experience.
• Proficiency with OpenRoad Designer, MicroStation, and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on roadway and transportation design for ODOT and LPA projects.
• Develop construction plan sets including horizontal & vertical alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading, drainage, and MOT.
• Apply ODOT design manuals, standards, and specifications.
• Produce CAD design using OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation and/or Civil3D.
• Review drawings for accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Assist with quantities, cost estimates, and design documentation; support constructability reviews.
• Mentor junior designers and project managers to support project delivery.
• Coordinate with engineers and project managers to support project delivery.
• Occasionally visit field sites and incorporate field data into designs.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands‑on roadway and transportation design for ODOT and LPA projects
• Develop construction plan sets including:
  • Horizontal & vertical alignments
  • Profiles and cross sections
  • Grading, drainage, and maintenance of traffic (MOT)
• Apply ODOT design manuals, standards, and specifications
• Produce CAD design using OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation and/or Civil3D
• Review and check drawings for accuracy and compliance with standards
• Assist with quantities, cost estimates, and design documentation
• Support constructability reviews and update designs as needed
• Mentor junior designers and project managers to support project delivery
• Coordinate with engineers and project managers to support project delivery
• Occasionally support field visits and incorporate field data into designs

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (required)
• 5-12 years of roadway or transportation design experience
• Strong hands‑on experience with:
  • OpenRoad Designer/MicroStation and/or Autodesk Civil 3D
• Experience producing roadway construction plan for:
  • DOT, municipal, or public infrastructure projects
• Solid understanding of roadway geometry, grading, and drainage fundamentals
• Comfortable working independently on complex design tasks
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills
• Ability to safely visit project and construction sites when necessary
