Job summary

AECOM is seeking a motivated Roadway Design Intern to join our Transportation team. This internship offers hands-on experience in roadway design and transportation engineering while working with experienced engineers and project managers.

You will support development of projects from preliminary concepts through final design, gain exposure to design software, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across our Raleigh and Columbia offices.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline; at least one year completed.
• Completion of relevant coursework in transportation, roadway design, surveying, or civil engineering fundamentals.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
• Proficiency with Word and Excel.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Familiarity with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Progress toward Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with roadway and transportation improvement projects.
• Prepare and modify roadway plans, profiles, cross-sections, details, and exhibits.
• Support horizontal and vertical alignment design.
• Assist with drainage and grading design activities.
• Assist with plan sheets, construction details, and design documentation.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and quantity takeoffs.
• Review plans and design documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Assist with project documentation and other tasks.
