Job summary

DKS Associates is seeking a Roadway Design Engineering Associate in Boise, ID. You will support planning, design, and delivery of roadway and multimodal projects under licensed engineers, developing design elements and documentation with increasing independence.

The ideal candidate has a civil engineering degree and 3+ years in roadway design, with proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation, and strong communication skills for teamwork and client coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of roadway or transportation design experience.
• Working knowledge of roadway design principles and transportation engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform roadway, drainage, and multimodal design tasks under the direction of a licensed engineer.
• Develop design elements such as alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading, and typical sections.
• Prepare and update construction plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
• Apply design standards, manuals, and agency criteria including DOT requirements.
• Coordinate design tasks with internal discipline leads.
• Participate in quality control reviews and incorporate feedback into design deliverables.

Roadway Design Engineering Associate

The Roadway Design Engineering Associate is an early to mid-career professional who supports the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and multimodal transportation projects. This role focuses on developing technical competence, applying engineering fundamentals, and delivering quality work with increasing independence. Individuals at this level work closely with project managers and senior engineers and are building the experience required for full professional responsibility.

What will you be doing?

• Performing roadway, drainage, and multimodal design tasks under the direction of a licensed engineer.
• Developing design elements such as alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading, and typical sections.
• Preparing and updating construction plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
• Applying applicable design standards, manuals, and agency criteria, including state DOT and local agency requirements.
• Coordinating design tasks with other internal discipline leads.
• Participating in quality control reviews and incorporating feedback into design deliverables.
• Supporting preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and design documentation.
• Assisting with responding to agency comments and coordinating revisions.
• Managing assigned tasks to meet schedules and budgets with guidance from project leadership.
• Participating in field reviews, site visits, and construction support activities as needed.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of roadway or transportation design experience.
• Working knowledge of roadway design principles and transportation engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Preferred:

• Experience with 3D design software such as Civil3D or OpenRoads.
• Experience working on DOT, county, or municipal transportation projects.
• Exposure to multimodal design, drainage analysis and design, roundabouts, or urban roadway projects.
• Familiarity with ADA requirements and accessibility standards.
• Interest in professional licensure and long-term career growth in roadway design.

Pay Range:

Associate (posted job): $91,560 - 105,735 per year
