Job summary

Jobtailor in Massachusetts is seeking an eager civil engineering student for an internship focused on transportation design. You will assist in roadway and intersection design, support the creation of construction documents, and participate in field visits to observe projects.

You will use AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation, collaborate with state DOTs and municipalities, and contribute to sustainable, cost-effective infrastructure solutions while developing essential professional skills.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Coursework or experience related to roadway design, traffic studies, or related coursework.
• Strong interest in transportation engineering and roadway design.
• Intellectual curiosity and a desire to solve engineering problems.
• Effective communication and attention to detail.
• Flexibility and a positive attitude.
• Preferred: hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Synchro or other 3D tools.
• Preferred: at least 2 years of completed coursework.
• Preferred: internship experience in engineering design or construction observation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in roadway and intersection design, including traffic control and signage.
• Help prepare construction documents, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
• Participate in field visits and construction observations.
• Use AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation to support plan development.
• Work with the Transportation Business Line on infrastructure projects across the Northeast.
• Collaborate with state DOTs, municipalities, and private clients.
• Contribute to sustainable, cost-effective, and forward-thinking transportation designs.
