Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation in Beaufort County seeks a Crew Leader to coordinate road construction, repair and preservation activities.

You will operate heavy equipment, instruct crew on safety, manage daily scheduling and HMMS reporting, and assist the Foreman with requests. A valid CDL is required within 6 months and you may work extended hours or in inclement weather.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL Class A within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate construction, repair, and preservation activities for roads in Beaufort County.
• Operate motor grader, excavator, backhoe, and slope mower.
• Instruct crew daily in safety practices, flagging, equipment use, and hazard awareness.
• Record all work in HMMS and assist Foreman with work requests.
• Create and implement a weekly work schedule; manage time and equipment.
• Ensure 95% equipment utilization and complete maintenance reports on time.
• Work in inclement weather and during emergencies; may include 12 hour shifts.
• Assist with on-call duties and related duties as assigned.
