Atlas, a leader in environmental and infrastructure services, seeks Roadway Construction Inspectors to join the Construction Management/Construction Inspection practice in Duluth, GA. Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field with 2 years of progressive transportation/inspection experience; or an Associate degree with 5 years; or a HS diploma with 7 years; or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of highway construction specs, plans, and inspection procedures; ability to read and apply documents.
  • Proficiency in math for calculations used in transportation/construction.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent inspections of roadway and structural construction to verify contract compliance.
  • Inspect and test materials ( soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete ) for quality and mix designs.
  • Evaluate pavement placement activities for conformance to requirements.
  • Monitor structural construction activities including foundation, piling, reinforcing steel, and concrete placement.
  • Oversee traffic control and erosion control measures for safety and compliance.
  • Perform field measurements and quantity verification to support pay items.
  • Maintain accurate project records and inspection documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

We are seeking Roadway Construction Inspectors to join our Construction ManagementConstruction Inspection practice team in Duluth Georgia. Come join us. This is an advanced journey to advanced level inspector position technical work supporting engineers in functional areas of roadway and bridge construction acceptance inspection and materials sampling and testing verification. Employee supports engineers and lead inspectors in the management of construction activities on large complex construction projects. Work usually involves a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment and may include providing work directions to others. This position requires some night and weekend availability.

Core Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent standardized and moderately complex inspections of roadway and structural construction projects to verify compliance with contract requirements, plans and specifications
  • Inspect and test construction materials including soils, aggregates, asphalt and concrete to ensure quality standards and proper mix designs are met
  • Evaluate pavement placement activities including spreading, rolling, alignment, depth and compaction to ensure conformance with project requirements
  • Inspect roadway and structural construction work to confirm compliance with approved plans, specifications and applicable standards
  • Monitor structural construction activities including foundation excavation, culvert installation, piling operations, reinforcing steel placement, structural steel erection, concrete placement and backfilling
  • Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control and erosion control measures to ensure safety and regulatory compliance
  • Perform field measurements, calculations and quantity verification to support contract administration and pay item documentation
  • Maintain accurate, complete and organized project records, reports and inspection documentation
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

You’ll thrive here if you have a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field and two years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience; or an Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology and five years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience; or a High school diploma or GED and seven years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and directly related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of highway and transportation construction specifications, standards, materials methods, equipment and accepted construction practices
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, contract documents, specifications, inspection procedures and related project documentation
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations used in transportation and highway construction including algebraic, geometric and trigonometric applications
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate inspection records and project documentation
  • Ability to work independently in the field while effectively communicating with project teams, contractors and stakeholders
Preferred Certifications
  • GSWCC Level 1A Erosion and Sediment Control Certification
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Georgia drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as required
  • Commitment to following Atlas health safety and quality policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform field work in varying weather and construction site conditions
  • GDOT Worksite Erosion Control Supervisor (WECS) Certification
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification
