Roadway Construction Inspector — Travel & Night Shifts

Job summary

Wallace Montgomery seeks a Construction Inspector for the Staunton District in Staunton, VA. Inspect road construction and maintenance projects, conduct soil and material tests, and document results daily.

You will travel statewide as needed, must hold a valid driver's license, and work under a Project Engineer. Night shifts may be required; you will obtain multiple certifications and maintain meticulous records throughout projects.

Qualifications

• High-school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to travel across the state and work night shifts when required.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of construction and maintenance projects.
• Conduct and observe tests on soils, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, bituminous products, metal products, and document results.
• Respond to data requests.
• Participate in traffic control activities.
• Maintain Inspector’s Daily Report (IDR) and daily progress photos.
• Attend meetings and participate in change‑order negotiations and CPM schedule meetings as needed.
• Obtain required VDOT certifications (Soil & Aggregate Compaction, Asphalt Field Level I & II, Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field, Pavement Marking, Slurry Surfacing, Flagger Certification, Erosion & Sediment Control Inspection, Stormwater Management, Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control, GRIT).
• Fill out the Nuclear Gauge Safety Training and the 10‑Hour OSHA Safety Training.
