Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Field Inspector to support transportation construction projects. The role involves observing and documenting field activities, ensuring procedures meet contract requirements, and coordinating with inspectors and engineers on site.

Responsibilities include reviewing QC procedures, testing procedures and results, and potentially sampling soil, base, concrete and asphalt to verify compliance. Travel expectations range from 20% to 40% depending on project needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or national entity such as ACI or NICET may be required by client or jurisdiction.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 2 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency depends on duties and project workload.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials under direct supervision.
• Determine acceptability of day‑to‑day work; review daily contractor reports and QC procedures; ensure conformance with Quality Control Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance; measure quantities and potentially perform sampling and in‑place testing of soils, aggregates, concrete and asphalt.
