Job summary

North Carolina Department of Transportation in Wilkes County seeks a Transportation Worker II to perform erosion control, vegetation management, seed/mulch work, and herbicide applications. The role includes leading a small crew, training peers, and maintaining records.

CDL with N endorsement or ability to obtain one within 360 days is required. The position involves operating trucks, tractors, mulch blowers, and related equipment, with duties extending to snow/ice operations and regulation

Qualifications

Knowledge of vegetation management including shrubs, trees and fertilizer practices.
Experience applying herbicides to control weeds and brush.
Must obtain NC Pesticide Operators License with Ornamentals & Turf endorsement within 60 days.
Experience operating pesticide applicator equipment, trucks, tractors, and utility vehicles.

Responsibilities

Lead worker role including on‑the‑job training and record-keeping.
Set up traffic control and assist with various tasks in roadside environments.
Operate and maintain equipment such as trucks, tractors, a mulch blower, and spray equipment.
Perform erosion control and vegetation management tasks in all weather conditions.
Participate in snow and ice operations when required.
