Job summary

Gilmer County Government is seeking a Road Crew Member to perform manual maintenance and upkeep of grounds, facilities, streets, and infrastructure. Work is physical and supervised, with duties that include operating power equipment and hand tools, coordinating with a crew, and responding to emergencies.

The role requires 0-2 years in related field and a valid Georgia driver’s license; ADA accommodations are considered.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• 0-2 years of working in street and/or facility maintenance, grounds keeping or related field.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license along with a clean MVR check.
• ADA Requirements: Individuals applying for the posted position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Physical Requirements: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, including lifting 50-100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual work functions in road construction, maintenance and repair (roads, drainage, signs, etc.).
• Maintains rights of way, parks, and public areas (mowing, edging, blowing, planting, mulch, etc.).
• Removes litter, debris, and deceased animals; travels established routes and monitors cleanliness.
• Transports, loads and unloads materials and equipment used in projects.
• Operates power equipment and hand tools used in department projects.
• Responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergencies.
• Completes forms and documentation (work orders, time cards, reports, etc.).
• Communicates with supervisor and public to coordinate work and relay information.
• Adheres to safety standards and reports faulty equipment; performs routine maintenance on tools and machinery.
• Additional duties as assigned.
