Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation in Klamath Falls is seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist (Limited Duration) to operate heavy and light equipment for road/bridge maintenance and emergency response. The role supports weather-related operations and routine repairs across surfaces and drainage systems.

Candidates must have CDL-A with tanker endorsement within 30 days, valid license with clean record, and be able to lift up to 60 pounds.

Qualifications

One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
CDL-A with tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
Valid U.S. driver license with acceptable driving record; FMCSA checks apply.
Maximum 45 minute response time to 2557 Altamont Drive, Klamath Falls, OR 97603 for emergencies.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy and light equipment to maintain/repair roadways, highways and structures.
Assist with weather emergencies; operate snowplows and deicer trucks.
Perform pothole and concrete patching; small inlay work.
Clear debris; mow grass; spray roadside vegetation.
Maintain fences, guardrails, barriers and milepost markers.
Maintain drainage, culverts and erosion control; repair ditches.
Manage wooded areas; replanting and pruning as needed.
Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
Perform janitorial, landscaping, painting and light carpentry work.
