Applicants should read engineering drawings, follow safety rules, and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; proper certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Moves levers, depresses pedals, turns handwheels, and pushes throttle to control and guide machine.
• Drives machine in successive overlapping passes over surface to be compacted.
• Determines speed and direction of machine based on material compressibility and temperature to avoid ridges.
• Pushes hand roller and pounds surfaces, or guides portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller.
• May be designated as Road-Roller Operator, Hot Mix; Subgrade-Roller Operator; or Diesel/Gas-Roller Operator.
