Position Summary
Baker Furniture is seeking a dependable, safety-focused, and experienced CDL Road Driver to join our transportation team. This role is responsible for transporting high-end luxury furniture from our North Carolina manufacturing facility to customer locations and showrooms throughout the Midwest, including regular deliveries to Texas.
The ideal candidate takes pride in safe driving practices, timely deliveries, and exceptional customer service. Experience in furniture transportation, freight securement, forklift operation, and white-glove delivery is highly preferred. This position requires careful handling of premium products to ensure every item arrives in pristine condition.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Transportation & Delivery
- Safely operate a company-owned diesel tractor-trailer in compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
- Complete scheduled long-haul deliveries and pickups across assigned Midwest routes.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to identify and report mechanical or safety issues.
- Maintain accurate driver logs and transportation records in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and DOT regulations.
- Ensure on-time delivery while maintaining professionalism and customer service standards.
Loading, Unloading & Product Protection
- Assist with loading and unloading luxury furniture and related products.
- Secure freight using approved strapping and load stabilization techniques.
- Pad-wrap and protect furniture to prevent scratches, dents, or transit damage.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment safely.
- Collect empty containers, packaging materials, and returned merchandise when required.
Documentation & Compliance
- Review customer orders, shipping receipts, bills of lading, manifests, and purchase orders before departure.
- Complete all required trip documentation, including:
- Driver logs
- Bills of lading
- Vehicle inspection reports
- Delivery confirmations
- Trip reports
- Follow all company transportation policies, including the Baker Driver Manual.
- Participate in the company’s Continuous Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Monitoring Program.
Safety & Teamwork
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and safe lifting practices.
- Maintain tools, truck equipment, and assigned work areas in clean working condition.
- Collaborate with warehouse, shipping, and delivery teams to ensure operational efficiency.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver furniture weighing 50+ pounds regularly
- Ability to climb in/out of truck cab and trailer multiple times per day
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks
- Ability to work in varying weather and road conditions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Class A CDL required
- Clean driving record with ability to meet insurability standards
- Minimum 1 year of CDL driving experience required
- Furniture delivery or white-glove delivery experience preferred
- Forklift certification preferred (or ability to obtain certification)
- Must pass:
