Job summary

345 DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION in Anadarko, OK seeks a Highway Construction Inspector to oversee highway construction activities, perform materials sampling and testing, and ensure compliance with plans and specifications. This non-exempt, full-time role reports to the Engineering Manager in the Operations Division: 7.

The position requires knowledge of construction materials, soil mechanics, surveying, and safety practices, with Level I/II responsibilities and potential for advancement.

Qualifications

• Level II requires an associate’s degree in STEM or closely related field and 1 year of transportation-related experience, or 2 years in transportation-related field.
• Level I requires a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Performs sampling and field testing of materials per ODOT guidelines.
• Submits accurate test records and samples to the residency lab.
• Maintains records in the Construction Management System and updates data.
• Inspects contractor’s work for compliance with plans and specs.
• Communicates with stakeholders affected by the project.
• Maintains documentation of project progress (measurements, calculations, reports).
• Submits progressive estimates and time diaries.
• Operates agency vehicles and equipment safely.
• Conducts safety reviews.
• Resolves contract disputes and interpretation with contractors.
• Trains new employees.
