Job summary

Blue Earth County Public Works seeks a Maintenance Technician I to support the construction and maintenance of the county’s transportation system. The role involves semi-skilled labor, operating medium and light equipment, and assisting with inventory and records to ensure safe, well-maintained roads, bridges, parks, and other county properties.

Under supervision, the technician performs preventive maintenance, flagging, and basic repairs.

Qualifications

• Experience in road work and/or road construction is preferred.
• Experience operating construction and road equipment is preferred.
• Proficiency in understanding and speaking languages other than English, such as Spanish, Somali, Chinese, Sudanese, and Arabic, among others.

Responsibilities

• Operates a wide variety of equipment in construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, bridges and ditches.
• Maintains shop buildings and grounds and clears vegetation from rights-of-way.
• Performs safety checks and basic maintenance on equipment; assists with repairs as needed.
• Sets up safety barricades and detour routes; conducts flagging per MN UTMC.
• Maintains logs, timesheets, and recordkeeping for the department.
