Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Inspector to conduct roadway and bridge project inspections, sampling, and testing to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines. You will inspect asphalt, concrete, curb, gutter, sidewalks, storm drainage, and traffic control devices; maintain project records and daily logs; and assist in resolving utility conflicts.

A high school diploma and one year of related experience are required; a valid driver’s license is mandatory;

Qualifications

• High school diploma and at least one year of related experience.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• Physical demands include frequent bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs, and exposure to traffic and outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

• Inspect roadway materials sampling and testing.
• Inspect placement of asphalt, concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and other roadway structures.
• Inspect traffic control devices for compliance, deficiencies, damage, or sight obstruction.
• Assist with determining and resolving utility conflicts.
• Assist in surveying and verifying offsets and grades for construction phases.
• Maintain project records and daily work reports; prepare monthly construction estimates.
