Job summary

The County of Volusia is seeking an Equipment Operator II for the Road and Bridge Division to operate medium and heavy equipment for road maintenance and drainage projects, performing safety inspections before and after each use.

Candidate must possess a valid Florida CDL Class B and a Florida driver's license, with a pre-employment skills test required. The role may require reporting to multiple Volusia County locations and availability for emergency responses.

Qualifications

• Completion of the 8th grade and two years' experience operating and maintaining moderately medium-sized construction and automotive equipment.
• Must possess a valid Florida CDL Class B at the time of hire and maintain thereafter.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire.
• A pre-employment skills test will be required.
• Comparable amount of education, training, or experience may substitute the minimum requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operates 10-wheel commercial trucks.
• Operate equipment, such as front-end loader, backhoe, skid steer.
• May operate a distributor applying oils, asphalt, or tars to highway surfaces.
• May operate roller in patching county roads.
• Operates truck carrying fuel, lubricants, and lubrication equipment.
• Performs routine field lubrication of light, medium, and heavy rolling stock and equipment.
• May operate a flatbed or dump truck.Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.
• Performs routine service and maintenance of equipment.
• Participates generally in the laboring work of the crew as workload demands.
• Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and Local ordinances.
• May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
• Performs duties and responsibilities of an Equipment Operator I.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
