A leading company in waste-to-energy and environmental services is seeking a Project Engineerto support the design, construction, and commissioning of anaerobic digestion facilities across the U.S. The company develops and operates infrastructure that transforms organic waste into renewable energy, playing a key role in decarbonization and sustainable resource recovery.
This is a remote position with frequent travel to project sites and vendor locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and coordination of technical documentation required for project execution, including construction packages, equipment specifications, and scope clarifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout engineering, procurement, and operations to ensure alignment across all technical deliverables.
- Evaluate proposed changes from equipment vendors or design partners and communicate implications on budget, schedule, and integration to internal stakeholders.
- Represent the engineering function in regular project reviews, providing updates on milestones, risk mitigation, and design status.
- Contribute to the development of standardized engineering processes and tools to drive consistency and efficiency across multiple projects.
- Visit manufacturing sites and vendor facilities to participate in inspection processes and ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.
- Support the onboarding of contractors and ensure technical requirements are clearly communicated throughout design, construction, and commissioning.
- Assist in the coordination of process instrumentation and automation systems, ensuring alignment with broader facility control strategies.
- Oversee technical records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design to handover, including equipment manuals, drawings, and closeout documentation.
- Respond to field-based technical queries and support construction teams with timely, accurate engineering input.
- Participate in technical bid evaluations and contribute to vendor selection processes in collaboration with the procurement team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 5–10 years of experience in project engineering or infrastructure development, ideally within industrial, renewable energy, or utility-scale projects.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive resolution independently.
- Strong collaboration skills with experience working in remote and cross-functional project teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical content for a variety of audiences.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving project scopes and aggressive timelines.
- Proficient in standard engineering software and documentation tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 20% for project meetings, inspections, and field support.
- Previous experience with renewable fuels, anaerobic digestion, or environmental infrastructure is preferred but not required.
