Job summary

Endeavor Health in Elmhurst, IL is seeking an RN Triage – Pediatrics to support our pediatric patients via telephone and MyChart, guiding care decisions and providing home medical advice.

The role requires an Illinois RN license and CPR/BLS certification, with a preference for candidates who have telephone triage experience. This is a full-time, on-site position with varied hours and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Science preferred.
• 1 year of telephone triage experience preferred.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Illinois required.
• CPR/BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient voicemails and talks directly to patients by telephone or through MyChart, directing to appropriate level of care or providing home medical advice.
• Performs nurse-led telephone assessments to determine problems and intervenes as needed.
• Assesses patient understanding using teach-back and communicates with clinical staff.
• Directs high-risk cases to the emergency department immediately when needed.
• Arranges follow-up appointments for patients who do not require ED visit.
• Prepares patients for exams, facilitates room setup, and assists with procedures and immunizations.

Hourly Pay Range

$35.15 - $54.48 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights

Position: RN Triage – Pediatrics

Location: 1200 S York Rd, Elmhurst

Full time 36 hours

Hours: M-TH 8-8 FRI- 8-5 SAT 8-11-2 evenings and 1-2 Saturdays

What you will do

Reviews patient voicemails and talks directly to patients on the telephone or via Mychart and directs patients to appropriate level of care (emergency department, urgent care centers, physician office) per protocol or provides appropriate home medical advice.

Conducts patient telephone assessment utilizing nursing skills to determine problems, intervening according to the patients need and gives instructions to patient/caregiver.

Evaluates patient’s and caregiver’s understanding of instructions using teach-back methodology and conveys related information and issues to appropriate clinical staff by telephone or by utilizing the EMR.

Sends patients with high-risk chief complaints such as chest pain, abdominal pain, or severe headaches, signs and symptoms of stroke to emergency department immediately.

Arranges appointments for patients who do not need to go to emergency department but need to see a physician.

Escorts patients to examination rooms, obtains and electronically records vital signs, reason for visit and other patient data.

Makes patient comfortable while waiting for provider.

Prepares patient for exam and/or procedure.

Sets up room with necessary equipment.

Performs all immunizations and assists with diagnostic and other in office procedures (i.e., colposcopy, LEEP, ESSURE, ablation, lab tests, venipuncture, specimen collection, etc.).

• Bachelors Degree Science - Preferred
• 1 Year of telephone triage experience preferred, preferably in medical practice setting - Preferred
• Registered Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure - Required
• CPR BLS issued by American Heart Association - Required
