Job summary

Keswick in Baltimore, MD is seeking an RN: Training and Development Manager to lead nursing education, clinical competency, orientation, and regulatory training across the skilled nursing and long-term care setting. Under the Director of Nursing, you will develop and oversee programs that ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality resident care.

The ideal candidate holds an RN license with a BSN, has 5 years of clinical nursing experience and at least 3 years in education or staff

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license in good standing with the MBON.
  • BSN degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in skilled nursing or long-term care.
  • Three years in education, staff development, nursing leadership, or related field.
  • Knowledge of CMS requirements for participation and long-term care survey processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing education and staff-development program based on regulatory requirements and organizational priorities.
  • Develop and coordinate nursing orientation for new hires across clinical staff.
  • Establish competency-based education and validation methods (observation, simulations, assessments).
  • Maintain an annual nursing education calendar addressing mandatory education and professional development.
  • Integrate in-person and computer-based learning; tailor modality to subject matter and staff role.
  • Support survey readiness and QAPI with education and outcome data.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership on Plans of Correction and performance-improvement initiatives.
  • Promote evidence-based practice in nursing policies and bedside care.

What is required for the RN: Training & Development Manager position?

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed and in good standing with the MBON
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program required; a Master's degree in nursing, Education, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in skilled nursing, post-acute care, rehabilitation, geriatrics, or long-term care.
  • Three years of clinical education, staff development, nursing leadership, competency management, or similar experience preferred
  • Knowledge of CMS requirements for participation, Maryland requirements, long-term care survey processes, QAPI, survey readiness, and evidence-based geriatric/post-acute practice preferred.
  • Experience with The Teaching Nursing Home (TNHC) Collaborative.
  • Dementia Care Practitioner (CDP) preferred.

What will I do as an RN: Training & Development Manager with Keswick?

  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive nursing education and staff-development program based on regulatory requirements, the facility assessment, resident population, clinical outcomes, identified risks, staff competencies, survey findings, and organizational priorities.
  • Develops, coordinates, and participates in nursing orientation for newly hired RNs, LPNs, GNAs/CNAs, CMAs, and other applicable clinical staff.
  • Establishes and maintains competency-based education and validation using observation, return demonstration, simulation, case scenarios, written assessment, record review, and other appropriate methods.
  • Develops and maintains an annual nursing education calendar addressing mandatory regulatory education, facility-specific risks, clinical needs, annual competencies, and professional development.
  • Integrates in-person instruction and computer-based learning; selects the educational modality according to subject matter, employee role, learning objective, risk level, and need for hands‑on validation.
  • Assigns, tracks, monitors, and evaluates required electronic learning modules; identifies overdue education and communicates deficiencies to appropriate leadership.
  • Serves as a clinical education resource for PointClickCare and assists staff in improving documentation of assessments, care plans, progress notes, changes in condition, ADLs, treatments, medication administration, MDS, and other applicable documentation.
  • Provides education supporting continuity of care, regulatory compliance, resident outcomes, MDS/clinical assessment processes, reimbursement, and accurate representation of services provided.
  • Uses audits, incident trends, medication errors, falls, wounds, infections, hospital transfers/readmissions, grievances, documentation deficiencies, survey findings, and other quality indicators to identify targeted education needs.
  • Coordinates focused education and competency validation following significant clinical events, identified practice concerns, changes in policy/procedure, regulatory findings, or performance deficiencies.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and facility leadership in developing and implementing educational components of Plans of Correction and performance‑improvement initiatives.
  • Participates actively in QAPI and presents relevant educational, competency, compliance, and outcome data as requested.
  • Supports ongoing survey readiness through rounds, audits, observations, competency reviews, documentation reviews, and focused staff education.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and Maryland regulations, CMS guidance, professional standards, evidence-based practices, and changes affecting skilled nursing and long‑term care; updates education accordingly.
  • Develops and coordinates clinical skills education addressing medication administration, infection prevention, wound care, enteral feeding, IV therapy, respiratory care, dialysis‑related nursing responsibilities, fall prevention, emergency response, safe resident handling, documentation, and other facility‑specific clinical practices.
  • Ensures required nurse aide in‑service education and competency activities are completed and appropriately documented in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Develops individualized remediation plans for identified knowledge or competency deficits and collaborates with supervisors to evaluate sustained improvement.
  • Evaluates whether education results in improved knowledge, competency, documentation, clinical practice, or resident outcomes rather than relying solely on attendance or module completion.
  • Promotes incorporation of current evidence‑based practice into nursing policies, procedures, competencies, and bedside care.
