Job summary

ARMStaffing is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room on a 13-week contract assignment in New York. The ER nurse will handle high patient turnover and may float to related units as needed, maintaining appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios and ensuring patient safety.

Shifts are 12-hour nights with flexible scheduling, as block scheduling is not allowed. Required are active RN license, BLS and ACLS, and ER/acute care experience.

• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• ER/acute care experience preferred, vented trach patients a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to ER patients, including general medical and telemetry cases.
• Maintain patient-nurse ratio of 1:5-6.
• Read telemetry strips; no telemetry techs available.
• Float to Medical/Surgical Telemetry units as needed.
• Assist with rapid patient transitions based on census and ER demand.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room will work in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating patient census and high patient turnover. Nurses are responsible for cohorting patients when possible and may need to float to Medical/Surgical Telemetry units when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in the ER, focusing on general medical and telemetry patients, including those with psychiatric needs and tracheostomies.
• Maintain a patient-nurse ratio of 1:5-6, ensuring high quality of care.
• Read and interpret telemetry strips, as no telemetry technologists are available.
• Remain independent and manage high-demand situations effectively without reliance on charge nurses.
• Assist with rapid patient transitions based on census and ER demand.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must possess an active RN license.
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS are mandatory.
• Previous experience in an emergency room or similar acute care setting is required, with a preference for candidates with experience managing vented trach patients.
