Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) functions primarily in direct patient care, demonstrating competent clinical practice. This position involves triaging patients, obtaining patient history and vital signs, and assessing patients. The RN acts independently to initiate immediate care in life-threatening situations in the absence of a physician and provides care for both acutely ill and non-acute patients. The role includes performing various procedures utilizing both complex and simple nursing skills and assisting physicians with their procedures. The RN ensures comfort—both physical and psychological—to patients, families, and visitors, while providing discharge and follow-up instructions.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing assessments, intervene appropriately and promptly, and participate in care planning.
- Regularly assess patient needs and provide skilled nursing services as dictated by the physician-authorized plan of care and accepted standards of nursing practice.
- Process physician orders accurately, completely, and in a timely manner; follow up on medication changes and order clarifications.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and suggest or facilitate changes to improve patient care.
- Actively participate in updating/revising treatment plans in collaboration with team members, utilizing current information.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- 2+ years of ER experience (required)
- Travel experience (preferred)
- Epic experience (preferred)
- Completed skills checklist pertinent to ER within the last year (required documentation)
- Active American Heart Association BLS certification (required documentation)
- Active American Heart Association ACLS certification (required documentation)
- Active Michigan RN license documented in LARA and/or Nursys (required documentation)
