Job summary

Midwest Cardiovascular Institute in Naperville, IL seeks a graduate RN with leadership experience to oversee the Stress Testing department. The role requires current IL RN license, BLS/ACLS, and 2+ years in critical care or cardiology, plus education in EKG and stress testing.

You will mentor staff, coordinate daily workflow, ensure patient safety, and maintain regulatory compliance while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current, unrestricted RN license in Illinois.
  • Minimum of two years in critical care, emergency, cardiology, or similar.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Completion of EKG, stress testing, and cardiology education within 12 months.
  • Advanced cardiology certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and monitor non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic stress tests with Nuclear Medicine Tech and supervising provider.
  • IV site selection, insertion, management, and removal.
  • Educate patients on preparation, restrictions, medication holds, and post-procedure expectations.
  • Recognize EKG and cardiac rhythm abnormalities and report findings promptly.
  • Prepare, obtain, and review EKG tracings; monitor vitals throughout testing.
  • Respond to adverse events under physician direction; ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Maintain documentation per policies and regulatory standards.
  • Support CT service line and cross-functional clinical operations.
  • Provide daily leadership and clinical oversight for the Stress Testing department.
  • Coordinate workflow, staffing, scheduling, and clinic operations for efficient care.
  • Mentor, coach, and guide nursing and clinical staff; assist with onboarding and education.
  • Promote adherence to protocols, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor quality indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to optimize patient care and departmental efficiency.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and staffing recommendations.
  • Coordinate continuing education and ensure certifications are maintained.
  • Support accreditation surveys and departmental audits.
  • Address patient concerns and assist with service recovery promptly.
  • Provide leadership coverage in manager/ director absence.

Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois.

Minimum of two (2) years of critical care, emergency, cardiology, or comparable clinical experience required.

Previous leadership, charge nurse, or preceptor experience preferred.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.

Successful completion of assigned EKG, stress testing, and cardiology education within twelve (12) months of hire.

Advanced certification in cardiology or cardiovascular nursing preferred.

Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform and monitor non-pharmacologic, pharmacologic, and PET stress tests in collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine Technologist and supervising provider.

Perform IV site selection, insertion, management, and removal.

Prepare patients for testing and provide education regarding preparation, dietary restrictions, medication holds, and post-procedure expectations.

Recognize EKG and cardiac rhythm abnormalities and promptly communicate significant findings to the supervising provider.

Prepare, obtain, record, and perform preliminary review of EKG tracings.

Monitor, assess, and document vital signs throughout testing.

Recognize and respond appropriately to adverse reactions or medical emergencies under physician direction.

Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining patient safety, dignity, and comfort.

Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Support the CT service line as needed and assist with cross-functional clinical operations.

Provide daily leadership and clinical oversight for the Stress Testing department.

Coordinate daily workflow, staffing assignments, patient scheduling, and clinic operations to ensure efficient patient care.

Serve as the primary clinical resource for nursing and clinical staff by providing mentorship, coaching, and guidance.

Assist with onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing education for new and existing employees.

Promote adherence to clinical protocols, evidence-based practice, infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.

Monitor department quality indicators, patient satisfaction, and operational performance while identifying opportunities for process improvement.

Collaborate with physicians, Nuclear Medicine Technologists, CT staff, and leadership to optimize patient care and departmental efficiency.

Assist leadership with employee performance evaluations, coaching, corrective action, and staff development.

Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and staffing recommendations.

Coordinate continuing education initiatives and ensure staff maintain required certifications and competencies.

Assist with departmental policy development, implementation, and regulatory compliance activities.

Support accreditation surveys, quality assurance initiatives, and departmental audits.

Address patient concerns and assist with service recovery in a timely and professional manner.

Provide leadership coverage during the absence of the department manager or director.

Foster a positive culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of the organization's mission and patient care philosophy.

Compensation

Starting pay is $36.00 per hour, with compensation commensurate with experience, education, certifications, and leadership experience.
