Job summary

Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH seeks an RN Surgery Resident in General Surgery to join the acute care team. This role supports surgeons and anesthesia providers, performing essential pre-, intra-, and post-operative nursing duties while participating in a one-year Nurse Residency program.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• BSN preferred.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• New graduate or <1 year RN experience; transition from non-inpatient settings acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and support patients before surgery.
• Maintain a safe and organized sterile environment.
• Assist during surgical procedures.
• Advocate for patients while under anesthesia.
• Provide education and communication to patients and families.
• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on surgery learning needs.
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
• Establish and revise priorities for patient care.
• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate corrective actions.
• Document in patients’ medical records.

About This Role

The RN Surgery Resident in General Surgery at Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus is an essential member of the surgical team, working closely with surgeons and anesthesia providers to deliver safe and compassionate patient care throughout every stage of surgery. This role is ideal for new graduates or nurses transitioning to acute direct care settings.

What You'll Do

Requirements

• Education:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Experience:
  • New grad or less than one year RN work experience
  • Less than one year current acute direct patient care RN experience if transitioning from non-inpatient settings
• Licenses & Certifications:
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
