Job summary

Dignity Health - Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver compassionate, high-quality care across the patient journey. You will perform assessments, participate in procedures, and implement patient care plans within an interdisciplinary team.

Requirements include 1 year OR/surgical experience, CA RN license upon hire, BLS/CPR and ACLS; BSN preferred. Pay range is $45.55–$79.04 per hour, with opportunities for professional growth in a nonprofit

Responsibilities

• Maintains knowledge of patient safety standards and applies them in nursing practice.
• Administers medications and blood products using the seven rights and two patient identifiers.
• Maintains a safe therapeutic environment and escalates issues to appropriate departments.
• Follows infection control and aseptic techniques; performs sterile dressing changes and catheterizations.
• Receives, interprets and implements physician orders using hospital processes.
• Performs patient assessments, history taking, and prioritizes care.

• Maintains current knowledge of all patient safety standards and National Patient Safety goals and consistently incorporates into nursing practice.
• Able to safely administer medications and blood/blood products using the 7 (seven) rights of medication and blood administration. Uses 2 (two) separate hospital approved identifiers to safely identify the patient prior to medication / blood administration.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic work environment at all times and identifies and addresses problems to the appropriate departments.
• Adheres to principles of infection control, including medical and surgical asepsis and isolation techniques. Demonstrates aseptic technique while conducting sterile dressing changes, urinary catheterizations, and other similar duties.
• Receive, interpret and implement physician orders in a safe and timely manner. Uses hospital approved process for telephone and / or verbal orders that include a readback of all orders.
• Perform patient assessment/reassessment, including giving or receiving comprehensive change of shift and intermittent report, obtaining the nursing history, conducting a physical assessment, establishing priorities for care.

• If operational conditions permit, training a candidate without the required experience may be considered. and
