Job summary

Good Shepherd Health Care in Hermiston, Oregon, seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to coordinate daily clinical operations within the Emergency Center. The role supports staffing, patient flow, and regulatory readiness while serving as a clinical resource for staff to ensure safe, patient-centered care.

The position requires an Oregon RN with at least three years of RN experience in a specialty area, with BSN/MSN preferred.

• Registered Nurse license in Oregon required.

• Prior experience as charge nurse, preceptor, clinical resource, or in a clinical coordination role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with staffing coordination, schedule support, patient throughput, and assignment awareness to promote efficient unit operations.
• Supports orientation, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing staff development with RN leadership and educators.
• Participates in quality monitoring, performance improvement, regulatory readiness, and compliance activities (DNV where applicable).
• Promotes effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, providers, and healthcare team.
• Assists in monitoring documentation and unit processes for organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provides direct and indirect patient care as needed within the RN scope of practice.

Definition of Position

Coordinates day-to-day clinical operations of the units in collaboration with unit leadership and interdisciplinary team to support safe, efficient, high-quality patient care. Supports staffing coordination, patient flow, regulatory readiness, staff education, and performance improvement activities. Serves as a clinical resource for staff, helps monitor compliance with policies, standards, and departmental processes, and supports communication across departments. Provides direct and indirect patient care as needed within the Registered Nurse scope of practice and performs other duties as assigned.

• Coordinates daily clinical operations and workflow of the unit in collaboration with the unit leadership and interdisciplinary team.
• Serves as a clinical resource to staff and supports safe, patient-centered care based on the nursing process, standards of practice, and hospital policies, protocols, and procedures.
• Assists with staffing coordination, schedule support, patient throughput, and assignment awareness to promote efficient unit operations.
• Supports orientation, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing staff development in collaboration with the RN Director, educators, and department leadership.
• Participates in quality monitoring, performance improvement, regulatory readiness, and compliance activities, including DNV programs as applicable to the position.
• Promotes effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, providers, ancillary departments, and members of the healthcare team.
• Assists in monitoring documentation, clinical practices, and unit processes for consistency with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provides direct and indirect patient care as needed and demonstrates competence in caring for the patient populations served by the department.

• Participates in employee interviews, onboarding, probationary reviews, performance evaluations, performance-improvement plans, and corrective-action processes.
• May initiate or issue coaching or corrective action within the authority delegated by the Assistant Manager and Department Manager and in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).

Education

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Evidence of continuing education is appropriate for skill level and area of practice.

Experience

The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds. There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety. Working Conditions

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
