Sentara Heart Hospital, located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring a Registered Nurse - Supervisor for the Cardiac Operating Room (OR) Team!
Up to $15,000 Sign-on Bonus available for qualified candidates, and relocation assistance can be provided.
The Supervisor, Nursing and Patient Care Services in a hospital setting plays a key leadership role in the nursing department, supporting the manager in overseeing all patient care activities on their assigned nursing unit(s). They are responsible for ensuring high standards of care, coordinating daily nursing activities, and facilitating communication between medical teams. They assist with training, mentoring, and performance evaluations of clinical staff, manage patient care assignments, help resolve patient and family concerns, and ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and safety regulations. Additionally, they assist in staffing decisions, maintain inventory for medical supplies, and ensure that the unit is properly equipped to provide quality care.
This position is full-time with rotating shifts.
There will be an on-call requirement and a once-a-month weekend call. Candidates must live within 30 minutes of the hospital for call purposes.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is one of just five Level 1 trauma centers in Virginia, home to the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance, the region’s first Magnet hospital, and a nationally ranked heart program at Sentara Heart Hospital. The hospital is situated on the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus, serving as the primary teaching institution. It offers Transplant Services: Heart, Kidney, and Pancreas. We are a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level 3 Epilepsy Center in the area.

Department Overview:
We have five operating rooms, including one hybrid OR, managing over 8 OR cases daily. Nurses work with a multidisciplinary team including Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, OR attendants, Surgical Techs, Surgical Assistants, Perfusionists, Anesthesiologists, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Physician Assistants.
The cardiovascular OR nurse works as part of the surgical services and OR teams treating open-heart (cardiovascular) patients. Responsibilities include preparing the OR, ensuring equipment and medications are available, reviewing patient charts, assessing patients, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, documenting information, and providing post-operative reports to ICU nurses.
