Job summary

Rutherford Regional Health System is seeking an experienced RN to lead the Stroke & Chest Pain quality program. You will collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, EMS, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure timely, evidence‑based care and regulatory compliance.

You will monitor metrics, coordinate program development, and drive performance improvements while serving as a visible leader in surveys, policy updates, and staff education.

Qualifications

• RN license to practice in NC is required.
• 3–5 years experience in stroke and/or chest pain care.
• Experience with accreditation and certification survey processes.
• Knowledge of heart and/or stroke patient care and ongoing education.

Responsibilities

• Lead, chair, and facilitate Stroke and Chest Pain Committee meetings.
• Monitor accreditation, certification requirements, and compliance.

• Conduct daily chart reviews and communicate findings to units.
• Analyze data, report monthly trends, and ensure data entry accuracy.

Our Stroke & Chest Pain Quality Coordinator is a key leader in advancing clinical excellence and improving outcomes for patients experiencing stroke and cardiac events. Working closely with physicians, nursing leaders, and clinical teams, you'll monitor quality metrics, support certification standards, identify opportunities for improvement, and help ensure patients receive timely, evidence-based care. This position is designed for a nurse leader who will provide oversight, direction, and vision for these programs while serving as a visible, confident spokesperson during meetings, surveys, and community forums.

How You'll Contribute

• Serves as the Stroke and Chest Pain Program Leader and Coordinator, with oversight of all accreditation and certification requirements.
• Collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, EMS, telemedicine partners, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
• Leads, chairs, and facilitates monthly Stroke and Chest Pain Committee meetings, driving accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
• Coordinates and advances stroke and chest pain programs, including program development, staff education, performance improvement initiatives, and implementation of best practices.
• Conducts daily concurrent chart reviews, communicating findings with nursing units and providers to ensure all quality measures and core metrics are met.
• Reviews, analyzes, trends, and reports performance data monthly, ensuring accurate and timely entry into approved databases and reporting tools.
• Leads preparation for and participation in Joint Commission and State Health Department surveys, including mock surveys, tracer activities, action plans, and ongoing readiness.
• Assists with the development, revision, and implementation of policies, protocols, clinical practice guidelines, and standardized order sets.
• Supports high-quality nursing documentation and quality initiatives within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Develops and delivers education across multiple venues, including staff education, provider meetings, committees, and community outreach.
• Serves as the clinical point of contact for telemedicine stroke and chest pain services.
• Acts as a liaison to the medical community, EMS, and external partners to promote program awareness and best practices.
• Leads and supports performance improvement initiatives using PDSA and other quality improvement methodologies.
• Provides patient and family education related to stroke and chest pain care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Education & Licensure

• Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred
• Applicants should have a current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).

Experience & Certifications

• 3-5 years of experience in stroke and/or chest pain patient care.
• Knowledge of and involvement with accreditation and certification survey processes, including Joint Commission survey experience.
• Experience in the care and treatment of heart and/or stroke patients.
• Ongoing continuing education related to stroke and chest pain care required.

Schedule

• Typically scheduled Monday through Friday with 8-10 hour workdays.
• Occasional evening or weekend participation may be required for survey preparation, community activities, and special events.
