Job summary

West Virginia University Health System seeks an RN Sepsis Specialist to leverage the EPIC EMR to identify patients at high risk for sepsis and coordinate care with the ER team for timely interventions. The role focuses on education, care coordination, and quality improvement in sepsis care.

The RN will conduct follow-up assessments, document thoroughly, and ensure adherence to sepsis management plans while complying with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines. Shift: Night, 36 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• RN license required (state or multi-state via eNLC).
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review ER monitors with EPIC to identify high-risk sepsis patients.
• Promptly communicate findings to ER team and implement sepsis protocols.
• Collaborate with ER team to ensure tests, interventions and follow-ups for high-risk patients.
• Conduct thorough follow-up assessments to monitor progress.
• Provide education to staff on sepsis identification, assessment and management.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives for sepsis care and outcomes.
• Maintain accurate documentation per hospital policies and guidelines.
• Place protocol orders as directed by the primary physician.
