WakeMed’s Nurse Residency Program supports new graduate nurses in their first year, pairing each resident with a preceptor and residency coordinators. Since 2004, the program has helped 95% of 2024 residents stay beyond the first year across 193 nurses.

The program guides development month-by-month, from onboarding and Q&A to quality improvement, professional practice, and career ladders, with opportunities for growth, mentorship, and leadership involvement.

Qualifications

• Graduates of an accredited ADN or BSN program.
• Newly licensed RNs or nurses with 6 months or less of post-licensure experience.
• Candidates eligible for RN licensure in North Carolina.
• Individuals who are passionate about patient care and committed to continuous learning.
• Team players who value collaboration, communication, and compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
• Develop clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and professional nursing competencies through mentorship.
• Grow into specialties such as acute, critical, emergency, women's, perioperative care.
