Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department in Birmingham, AL. This role supervises and coordinates unit staffing, leads clinical objectives, and ensures high-quality patient care during day shifts.

Responsibilities include directing and evaluating nursing staff, distributing care assignments, and addressing patient care concerns while supporting staff development in a dynamic ED environment.

Qualifications

• Licensure / Certification / Registration requirements: BLS within 1 month, ACLS within 6 months, RN license in Alabama.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.

Job Description

Supervise and coordinate unit staffing and provides leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develops and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• ACLS obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required. Required professional licensure/certification. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required.
