Job summary

UAB Medicine seeks an experienced OR nurse to deliver professional perioperative care for patients undergoing surgical and invasive procedures. The role includes scrub and circulating duties, direct surgeon assistance, and room preparation to ensure safe operations.

Schedule is 6am-3pm, Monday to Friday, with rotating weekday/weekend/holiday call. UAB St. Vincent's East serves as the work location within UAB Medicine’s extensive Alabama network.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS required within 180 days of hire.
• Licensed RN credentialed by the Alabama Board of Nursing prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting for surgical patients.
• Perform scrub functions: select and handle instruments and supplies used during procedures.
• Perform circulating functions: monitor patient condition and manage overall nursing care before, during and after procedures.
• Directly assist the surgeon with hemostasis, suturing, and wound exposure; assist with patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and instruments for use.

Job Description

Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
