Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking an experienced perioperative nurse to deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures. You will perform scrub and circulating duties, assist the surgeon with surgical tasks, and prepare operating rooms and equipment for use.

The role requires a nursing diploma with an Alabama RN license, and BLS/ACLS certifications within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• BLS/ACLS certification current or obtained within stated timeframes.
• Licensed RN in Alabama prior to hire date.
• Diploma from an accredited nursing program with active licensure.

Job Description

Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
