Responsibilities

  • Utilize the nursing process (assess, plan, implement, evaluate) to provide safe, therapeutic care to patients and families.
  • Make independent judgments and take action regarding a wide range of patient problems.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care; may assume charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Participate in clinic and divisional activities to promote problem solving and professional development.
  • Screen and triage homeless patients to appropriate medical respite or other placements.
  • Provide direct nursing care within the clinic setting as needed.
  • Perform wound care and PICC line management.

Harborview's Medical Respite Program (Edward Thomas House Medical Respite) has an outstanding opportunity for a per-diem Registered Nurse (RN).

Department Summary

The Edward Thomas House Medical Respite is a unique medical respite harm reduction program that provides shelter care with embedded nursing, mental health, and case management services to an at-risk homeless population. Medical Respite is a part of the Healthcare for the Homeless Network and is supported by funds from multiple sources including King County Public Health, MIDD, and local hospitals. The Edward Thomas House admits patients referred from all King County area hospitals 7 days a week and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The program is operated by Harborview Medical Center (HMC) at an off-site location next to the Harborview emergency department.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) to prescribe, prioritize, delegate, coordinate and provide safe, therapeutic nursing care to patients/families
  • Makes independent judgments/decisions and takes action regarding a wide range of routine and complex patient problems and situations
  • Collaborate with other disciplines as appropriate to coordinate continuity of patient care. As assigned by the RNIII or Clinic Manager, the RNII, could assume the responsibility of charge nurse
  • Participate in clinic and selected divisional activities to promote delivery problem solving and communication and continued professional development for self and others
  • Screen and triage homeless patients to either medical respite or other placements which offer services that meets the patient’s needs
  • Provide direct nursing care within the clinic setting as needed
  • Perform wound care and PICC line management

Compensation, Benefits And Position Details

Pay Range Minimum: $46.97 hourly

Pay Range Maximum: $87.02 hourly

Other Compensation: $1.00/hour BSN premium
