Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is hiring an RN for the ED Screening Crisis Unit at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. This full-time night shift role offers hourly compensation and requires active NJ RN licensure with BLS/ACLS/PALS and ED experience.

The RN will conduct assessments, monitor patients, administer care, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team while documenting in EPIC EMR and guiding families through care transitions.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing.
• Current BLS, ACLS & PALS certifications.
• 1+ year Behavioral or ED patient care experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and identify clinical changes.

ED Screening is the Behavioral Crisis locked Unit located in the ED. The dynamic team includes the Psychiatrist, RN, Screener and MHA.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients


• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment


• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions


• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care


• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety


• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care


• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS & PALS certification. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred. At least one year current Behavioral or ED patient care experience is required and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers 3 nights/week 7p-7:30a schedule, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
