Job summary

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA is seeking an Apheresis Registered Nurse to perform apheresis procedures for pediatric and adult patients, manage various access types, monitor during treatments, and collaborate with physicians and blood bank staff to ensure optimal patient care.

The role requires active RN licensure, BLS certification, and ideally prior apheresis or dialysis experience; BSN preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in state of employment or multistate license (NLC).
  • AHA BLS certification prior to end of orientation period.
  • Preferred: previous apheresis or dialysis experience.
  • RN with 3–5 years’ experience and pediatric/adult nursing experience.
  • BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform apheresis procedures to collect blood components.
  • Monitor patients during treatments and manage adverse reactions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, fellows, residents and blood bank staff.

The Apheresis Registered Nurse is a highly-skills professional performing apheresis procedures, which involve collecting blood components such as plasma, platelets, or white blood cells from donors or patients. The Apheresis unit provides care for pediatric and adult outpatients, as well as inpatients. They are responsible for different types of access including tunneled and non-tunneled central lines, Apheresis ports, as well as peripheral IVs. The RN is accountable for monitoring patients during treatments and having critical thinking for adverse reactions. The department works collaboratively with doctors, fellows, residents and blood bank staff to ensure a positive patient experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Previous apheresis or dialysis experience
  • RN with 3-5 years’ experience and experience with pediatric and adult nursing
  • Must possess knowledge of critical care, to include advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and basic cardiopulmonary life support certification
  • BSN preferred
