Overview:

Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) and its outlying clinics are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Perioperative Registered Nurse to provide critical nursing support through the Defense Health Agency (DHA) strategic sourcing program. The position will support active duty service members, their families, retired military personnel, and their families. The ideal candidate will work in a dynamic healthcare environment that values quality patient care and effective clinical outcomes.

Payrate: $72 hr

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Graduate Diploma in Nursing, or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited agency (ACEN, CCNE).
• Licensing:
  • A current unrestricted RN license in any of the 50 States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or U.S. Virgin Islands.
• Certifications:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or ALS (Advanced Life Support - American Red Cross).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of perioperative RN experience in the last 3 years.
  • At least 50% of the experience should be in the role of circulating RN (Scrub RN experience is not essential).

Core Duties:

• Collaborate with healthcare teams to coordinate patient care and achieve optimal clinical outcomes.
• Ensure adherence to established standards of care, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Perform physical exams, document health histories, and provide patient education.
• Administer medications, wound care, and implement personalized interventions.
• Delegate patient care assignments based on scope of practice and skill levels of assigned personnel.
• Recognize and respond promptly to adverse signs and symptoms in emergency situations.
• Facilitate communication among the healthcare team, patients, and families.
• Make appropriate referrals and arrange specialty care when necessary.
• Conduct research to support improved clinical practices and patient outcomes.

Additional Duties: Perioperative Nurse Responsibilities:

• Independently plan, organize, and implement nursing care in the operating room.
• Assess patients' physical and emotional needs and provide support to patients and their families.
• Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and surgical technologists.
• Organize, direct, and manage the operating room team to ensure optimal patient care and resource utilization (personnel, supplies, and equipment).
• Verify surgical sites and procedures with the patient and review patient charts for accuracy.
• Monitor and document patient responses to interventions and collaborate with the surgical team regarding changes in condition.
• Ensure compliance with aseptic and sterile techniques and proper sterilization and disinfection practices.
• Troubleshoot complex surgical equipment and communicate any issues that cannot be resolved immediately.
• Uphold department and command policies while demonstrating advanced professional nursing judgment.
• Follow infection prevention and control guidelines and standard precautions.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards, recommended practices, and guidelines.
