General Information
Tell us about the unit(s): Primary patient population is CV surgery and vascular surgery including open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, etc), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy, etc.), esophagogastrectomy, AAA (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomies. Also receive overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, etc.
• Number of Beds – 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
• Number of Staff – approximately 100 total
• Staff Composition:
o Day Shift – 1 charge RN (routinely out of staffing), 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, 1.33 HUC
o Night Shift – 1 charge RN (routinely out of staffing), 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, 0.33 HUC
• Patient Ratios – 1:5 patients per RN, 1:13 for PCTs
• Equipment – Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts
• EMR – Cerner
Typical hiring profile
Must have: Stepdown experience, Telemetry experience
Preferred: CV surgery and vascular surgery experience within a year, CVICU experience
List procedures: Epidural management, Chest tube management, Tube feedings, IV gluccomander, Cardiac gtt management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
Personality: Team player, Enjoys fast-paced environment, Flexible
Certifications: ACLS and BLS
Floating Area(s): Any SD (1:5) or MS (1:6-7) unit, ER inpatient holding area (1:6)
Dress Code: All navy, white tops/navy bottoms, or all white
Unit Policies: Please see attached policies and guidelines.
Weekend and On-call: No call. Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule. Flexible to work holidays.
