Maple Heights Behavioral Health is a new, 120-bed inpatient hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, providing comprehensive treatment for adolescents, adults, and seniors with acute mental health symptoms.

Purpose
The clinical professional facilitates admissions, conducts clinical intake assessments, and manages utilization review processes to ensure patients receive appropriate care and resource utilization.
Responsibilities
- Review medical documentation for admissions, complete medication reconciliation, and obtain admission orders from physicians.
- Facilitate emergency transfers for patients with medical emergencies outside the facility’s capabilities.
- Review referrals from hospitals, facilities, and community agencies for medical and behavioral acuity, responding within policy timeframes.
- Respond to inquiries about the facility and provide appropriate recommendations.
- Conduct assessments to determine the appropriate level of care.
- Collaborate with medical and psychiatric staff for admissions and care planning.
- Manage the admissions process, including assessment, consent, and inventory of belongings.
- Perform insurance benefit verifications and secure pre-authorizations.
- Monitor patient status throughout the admissions process.
- Use web-based programs to track referrals and communicate projected admissions.
- Ensure all clinical information is received prior to admission when possible.
- Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consulting with physicians and communicating recommendations.
- Prepare and maintain medical records for authorization purposes.
- Complete pre-authorization prior to admission within payor guidelines.
- Admit patients into the registration system, completing all forms.
- Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward patients and families.
- Address and resolve patient complaints, prioritizing safety.
- Coordinate follow-up care and referrals for non-admitted patients.
- Conduct safety checks and supervision as per guidelines.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (minimum).
- At least one year of clinical or observational experience, preferably in a related specialty.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Active nursing license in the state.
- CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification (training provided upon hire).
- First aid may be required depending on state or facility policies.
