Job summary

Cape Cod Healthcare is seeking an RN for the Operating Room. The role includes delivering patient care, maintaining records, and coordinating activities in a busy surgical environment. Ideal candidates will have prior Operating Room experience, possess an RN license in Massachusetts, and maintain current BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one-year Operating Room experience or completion of Peri-op 101 Training Program.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Intraoperative scrub training for cesarean sections needed within 24 months.

Purpose of Position : Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Administers and monitors patient responses to all medications. Directs and guides patient care, teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing within the realm of Hospital Policy. Maintains and delivers the highest quality customer service standards.

  • Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
  • Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for coordinating all daily operating activities of the Operating Room (See reference guide at Center Core.) in conjunction with Nurse Manager and the Department of Anesthesia.
  • Assists in the supervision of personnel and department to provide quality patient care and a safe environment for all.
  • Assists in staff development and education and in identification of unit needs.
  • Assists in additional duties as directed by Nurse Managers.
  • Provides and controls material, supplies and equipment needed for efficient, successful operation of the Operating Room.
  • Supervises the control and maintenance of drugs, i.e. inventory of pyxis.

Qualifications

Qualifications :

• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
• Graduate of a School of Nursing
• (RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• (BLS) - Current Basic Life Support certification
• Minimum of one-year Operating Room experience or completion of Peri-op 101 Training Program
• (Preferred) - Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
• Intraoperative scrub training for cesarean sections (complete within 24 months of position start, offered within)

Schedule Details : 40 hrs per week, Rot. schedule, 11a-7:30p, may rotate 9a-5:30p or 1p–9:30p, rotating weekends and holidays. On call required, lead required for radiological procedures
