Job summary

Ridgeview Medical Center in Minnesota is seeking a casual registered nurse to deliver individualized patient care through the nursing process, assess, plan, implement and evaluate care in line with hospital standards.

Responsibilities include patient assessment, care provision, education for patients and families, documentation, quality improvement participation, and acting as patient advocate; may serve as Charge Nurse to manage flow and coordinate staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Minnesota nursing license or permit while license application is in process.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NRP certification within 6 months from hire.
  • STABLE certification within 6 months from hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient health problems and develop care plans.
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to plan.
  • Educate patients and families on health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Document and maintain accurate medical records and reports.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Advocate for patients and help access community resources.
  • Collaborate with peers and other healthcare professionals to improve practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

This is a casual position. A casual is a non-benefit eligible position that is not guaranteed any hours but can pick up open shifts.

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the delivery of individualized patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and Practice as defined by Ridgeview Medical Center, the Minnesota Nurse Practice Standards Act, and the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.

Job Functions
  1. Assesses patient health problems, needs and develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans accordingly.
  2. Provides nursing care.
  3. Advises and educates patients, family members and significant others on health maintenance and disease prevention for the patient.
  4. Documents and maintains accurate medical records and reports.
  5. Participates in quality improvement activities as appropriate to position.
  6. Serves as a patient advocate in seeking appropriate community resources to meet patient needs.
  7. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers, other healthcare providers, and colleagues to enhance own professional nursing practice.
  8. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of .
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
When functioning as a Charge Nurse
  1. Manages flow of patients through inpatient and/or outpatient departments.
  2. Assigns resources to care for patients and arranges staffing to ensure safe patient care.
  3. Provides work direction and addresses issues during the shift.
  4. Acts as a liaison between staff, patients, and physicians.
  5. Demonstrates unit specific Charge Nurse competencies.
  6. Review Physician orders.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
  • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
License/Certifications
  • Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months from hire
  • STABLE certification within 6 months from hire
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous Labor and Delivery, NICU, and/or Pediatric nursing experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
