Job summary

Meadowview Regional Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern to join our compassionate team in Kentucky. You will provide direct patient care under RN supervision, document care, and monitor patient conditions while supporting families and collaborating with the healthcare team.

As a current nursing student (3rd year or higher) with BCLS certification, you will assist with ADLs, coordinate care across disciplines, and advocate for patients’ well-being in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an approved school of nursing and be a third year student or higher and graduate within 13 months of hire.
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BCLS) required.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to supervising RN.
• Maintains positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and health care team.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Coordinates patient care across disciplines and supports needs such as transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

How you'll contribute

A Nurse Extern who excels in this role:

• Direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.
• Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
