THE UNIT:
Allegheny General’s 7C Neuro ICU is a 22 bed unit.
Patient acuity includes: aneurysm related, clipped/coiled, brain tumors-resection/radiation, gunshots, brain cases of unknown origin. Procedures include trach/pegs, bronchs, burr hole for drainage, lumbar punctures and drain placement, TTE/TEE, and central line placements including swan ganz catheter. RN assists MD under sterile conditions with procedures.
This is a teaching unit, dealing with head blocks, strokes, acute strokes, IVTPA, and running codes.

AGH is a Level I Shock Trauma Center with 5 state-of-the-art ICUs and a state-of-the-art Cancer Center, comprising 550+ beds.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Responsible and accountable for a designated patient population for the purpose of providing care based upon enactment of the nursing process. Demonstrates clinical assessment and care planning skills. Provides safe and effective care for the age population served according to regulatory requirements. Professionally directs and manages the activities of the patient care delivery by the team members. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team for the plan of care from admission through discharge. Assesses learning needs of patient and family and provides education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.
