Responsibilities

  • Hiring process includes an interview with the clinical team.
  • No involvement from unit management.
  • Candidates must submit a valid driver's license.
  • Clinicians must be in-state for orientation week, even if modules are remote.
  • Float pool includes multiple units ranging from General Telemetry to various specialties.
  • Nurse to patient ratios are based on acuity, typically 1:5-6.
  • Common diagnoses include cardiac, neuro, oncology, rehab, renal, ortho, trauma and ED observation.
  • RNs may be required to titrate Heparin drips.
  • A designated charge nurse is present on each unit.
  • Unit is equipped with respiratory equipment, including vents, CPAP, BiPAP.
  • Scheduling is made 6 weeks in advance by leadership.
  • Travelers must be flexible and assist in filling gaps in the permanent schedule.
  • All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment.
  • Weekend requirements consist of 6-9 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule.
  • Call or standby requirements are rare and occur during low census situations.
  • Assigning units may involve floating into different acuity levels.
  • Scrub colors and dress code are flexible.
  • Unit-specific orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor.
  • The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, and 3 shifts for shorter assignments.
  • Charting system used is EPIC.
