This RN Medsurg role is on our Oncology Unit here at Cobb Hospital.

Shift: 7pm-7am - 36 hour week.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment overseen by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and aligned with the Wellstar Values.

All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association's Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics. As part of the patient services team, they must uphold patient voices, system policies, and service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Perform the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating care through effective partnerships.
  • Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics, respecting cultural diversity.
  • Partner with patients and significant others through methods like bedside reporting, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient teaching, focusing on patient goals.
  • Practice according to current clinical standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinate and document safe, quality patient care, promoting respectful and inclusive interdisciplinary communication and a positive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting healthcare team recruitment and retention.
  • Participate in performance improvement, research, and shared governance activities to promote safe, quality care.
Professional Development and Initiative
  • Complete all professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Serve as a preceptor or mentor to foster a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
  • Promote evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement activities.
  • Uphold organizational policies, procedures, and standards, including safety goals and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in data collection, clinical questioning, and consulting with experts to inform practice.
Resources and Support
  • Plan proactively for patient care across the continuum.
  • Develop protocols and procedures to improve outcomes, such as reducing re-admissions and adverse events.
  • Support efficient use of resources.

Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards.

Minimum Education and Certifications
  • Associates or Bachelors in Nursing preferred.
  • RN license (Single State or Multi-state Compact).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience

Less than 1 year of clinical experience post-graduation preferred.
