Job summary

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA, is seeking a registered nurse for a 36-hour-per-week position with rotating evenings and nights (7p–7:30a), every other weekend, and rotating holidays. You will administer medications, assess patients, document care, and participate in professional development and hospital committees.

The role requires MA RN licensure, BLS, and strong nursing skills, with preferred BSN and cardiac care experience. The department is CCH-Mugar 3, located in Massachusetts-Hyannis.

Qualifications

  • RN licensure in Massachusetts
  • BLS certification required
  • CCHC Pharmacology Exam (before start)
  • CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam (before start)
  • RN Residency & Transition must be completed within 3 months from start date
  • Med/Surg experience in an acute care facility within the last 2 years
  • BSN preferred
  • Experience in cardiac patient management (preferred)
  • ACLS/telemetry experience or chemotherapy/biotherapy certification (preferred)
  • Chemotherapy practicum (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Documents patient assessments and plans of care during admission and communicates pertinent data to care teams.
  • Acts as charge nurse and supports nursing staff.
  • Utilizes Computerized Nursing Informatics systems.
  • Participates in staff development and Nursing PI activities.

  • Participates in meetings and quality improvement activities.

Job description

Purpose of Position: Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Administers and monitors patient responses to all medications. Directs and guides patient care, teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing within the realm of Hospital Policy. Maintains and delivers the highest quality customer service standards.

Description
  • Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
  • Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • (RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • (BLS) - Current Basic Life Support certification
  • CCHC Pharmacology Exam (pass prior to start date)
  • CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam (pass prior to start date)
    • RN Residency & Transition (job code: 6004), must be completed within 3 months from start date
  • Med/Surg experience in an acute care facility within the last (2) two years
  • (Preferred) - Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
  • (Preferred) - Experience in the management of cardiac patients
  • (Preferred) - ACLS, recent telemetry experience, Med/Surg. Certification (Preferred) – Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification
  • (Preferred) – Chemotherapy practicum
