Job summary

The Clinical Support RN at Falmouth Hospital Association provides direct patient care, mentors novice RNs, and rounds on Med-Surg units to promote evidence-based practice and high patient safety.

You will support the Nursing Supervisor, assist with assessments, administer meds under supervision, and help with documentation and education rollouts while maintaining service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • BSN preferred; RN license in MA required.
  • Massachusetts RN license current.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • De-escalation certification within 90 days.
  • Telemetry experience required.
  • 3–5 years recent acute Med/Surg or CCU experience.
  • Experience in precepting or mentoring preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Rounds on all Med-Surg units providing coaching and just-in-time teaching for novice RNs and staff.
  • Mentors and supports less experienced nursing staff to build clinical competence and confidence.
  • Administers and monitors medications under supervision and responds to changes in patient condition promptly.
  • Maintains accurate electronic documentation and adheres to nursing PI activities.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team on patient assessments and discharge planning.

Job description

Purpose of Position: The Clinical Support RN is a highly skilled and experienced registered nurse who provides direct patient care and clinical support throughout the hospital. This role centers on mentoring and supporting novice RNs during their transition into practice, in addition to delivering clinical support across all Med-Surg staff. The Clinical Support RN acts as a resource, role model, and coach, rounding on all Med-Surg units to promote evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and confidence among newer nurses. This role also supports quality patient outcomes and reinforces adherence to hospital policies and nursing standards, while maintaining the highest level of customer service.

Description
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Rounds on all Med-Surg patient care areas, assisting as needed and offering clinical expertise, coaching, and just-in-time teaching, to novice RNs and other Med Surg staff.
  • Provides safe, high-quality, and age-appropriate care in all assigned areas, deploying to various units as needed by the Nursing Supervisor.
  • Provides guidance and support to less experienced nursing staff, fostering clinical competence, confidence, and professional development.
  • Promotes the effective use of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in patient care, and ensures proper documentation aligned with Nursing PI activities.
  • Assist with patient assessments throughout the hospital admission, including physical, psychological, social, and discharge planning dimensions, and communicates findings with the interdisciplinary team.
  • In conjunction with the primary RN, Administers and monitors the effects of medications and responds to changes in patient condition promptly and effectively.
  • Supports staff by transporting and assisting patients in radiology and other ancillary departments.
  • Maintains proficiency in nursing informatics systems and ensures accurate, timely electronic documentation in collaboration with the primary RN.
  • Collaborates with Nursing Education to stay informed of new initiatives, acting as a unit-level resource for education rollouts and best practices.
  • Models service excellence and maintains professionalism when interacting with patients, families, staff, and the community.
  • Adheres to infection control and hospital safety protocols including those related to blood and body fluid exposure.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor to support departmental operations and patient care
Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current and valid Massachusetts RN license.
  • (BLS) - Current Basic Life Support certification
  • (ACLS) – Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
  • (De-escalation) - Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 90 days, offered within)
  • CCHC Pharmacology Exam (successfully pass)
  • CCHC Basic Arrythmia Exam (successfully pass)
  • 3–5 years of recent acute care Med/Surg or Critical Care experience (within last 2 years) – Required
  • Telemetry experience – Required
  • Experience in precepting, mentoring, or education – Preferred
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and support novice nurses
  • Proficiency in electronic documentation systems
  • Commitment to service excellence and teamwork

Schedule Details: 48PP (24 Hours Per Week), Rotating Eves, 3p-11p, Every Other Weekend and Rotating Holidays
