Job summary

Wellpath at CA Kings County Jail is seeking an RN MAT Coordinator to lead the medication-assisted treatment program within designated facilities. You will coordinate clinical care with medical, behavioral health, and security teams to ensure integrated service delivery.

You will conduct patient assessments, support screenings and referrals, coordinate labs/drug screens, and ensure continuity of treatment. The role requires strong leadership, staff training, and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Masters in clinical/counseling psychology or social work required.
  • Nursing degree (RN) with state licensure required.
  • Substance use disorder or behavioral health certification desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, manages, and coordinates MAT services across facilities with medical, nursing, behavioral health, and security staff.
  • Provides clinical supervision, training, and staff development for the MAT program.
  • Directs clinical services and assigns duties to healthcare staff per licensure and scope of practice.
  • Conducts patient assessments, supports screenings and referrals, and coordinates labs, drug screens, and medication management.
  • Coordinates MAT-related operations, including coordination with community methadone clinics.

How you make a difference

The RN MAT Coordinator provides leadership and oversight for the delivery of medication assisted treatment services within assigned facilities. This role coordinates the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the MAT program in collaboration with an integrated healthcare and custody team. The position directs clinical services, supports staff education and training, and ensures coordinated care delivery for patients receiving MAT. The RN MAT Coordinator also conducts assessments, supports screenings and referrals, and helps ensure continuity of treatment services. This role plays a central part in maintaining effective collaboration across medical, behavioral health, and security teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plans, manages, and coordinates MAT services, working closely with medical, nursing, behavioral health, and security staff
  • Supports program development, expansion, and staffing while providing clinical supervision, training, and staff development
  • Directs and oversees clinical services and assigns duties to healthcare staff in alignment with licensure and scope of practice
  • Conducts patient assessments, supports screenings and referrals, and ensures appropriate labs, drug screens, and medication coordination
  • Coordinates MAT-related operations, including medication administration schedules and collaboration with community methadone clinics
Additional Details

Candidates should have experience coordinating Medication-Assisted Treatment or substance use disorder services within a medical or behavioral health setting.

They should be familiar with CIWA and COWS assessments, withdrawal monitoring, SUD screenings, medication administration, laboratory and drug-screen coordination, and referrals to medical, mental health, psychiatric, or community treatment providers.

Strong candidates will also have experience leading multidisciplinary teams, developing clinical workflows, training staff, monitoring quality and compliance, and collaborating with providers, nursing, behavioral health, security, and outside methadone clinics.

Correctional healthcare, integrated care, CalAIM, reentry services, and working with multiple facility stakeholders are strongly preferred.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education
  • Minimum of Independent Licensure with a Masters Degree in clinical/counseling psychology or social work from an accredited college or university or be a graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing with a current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state in which employed.
  • Other substance abuse certification would be desirable though not required.
Experience
  • Experience in the coordination and administration of behavioral health or medical service delivery systems as well as knowledge and/or interest in the provision of integrated behavioral health/medical programming within a multidisciplinary framework.
  • Professional experience in the behavioral health or medical field that indicates knowledge of management and supervision techniques, peer review, data collection and quality assurance.
  • Experience successfully navigating a correctional healthcare setting in which there are multiple stakeholders and needs to consider while maintaining the patient’s needs as the primary focus.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Related certification may be applicable based on specific state requirements.
